What comes with our Storm Doors
Protection
It is a smaller job than replacing the entry door and fits over the door you already have, so it is often the first thing to look at when the front door is sound but takes a beating from the weather.
A storm door makes most sense on an entry that faces the weather or on a home where you like to let a breeze in during spring and fall. It shields the main door from sun and rain and gives you a screened opening when you want it.
- Protects the entry door from sun and driving rain
- Ventilate without leaving the main door open
- Interchangeable glass and screen panels
Installing and caring for Storm Doors
One caution for DFW: a full-glass storm door in front of a dark entry door on a west or south face can trap a lot of heat between the two. We’ll talk through glass and screen options, and whether your main door’s maker has guidance on pairing it with a storm door.
Install is simpler than a full door: we check the existing frame is square, fit the storm door frame to it, set the closer and latch, and adjust it so it closes without slamming. Price depends on style, glass and screen options, color and hardware.
Storm Doors: common questions
It can on a west or south face, especially a full-glass storm door over a dark entry door. We’ll talk through glass and screen options and check whether your entry door’s maker has guidance on pairing it with a storm door.
Whatever the opening needs. We set doors square and seal them properly, which is most of what makes a door close cleanly for years.
If your entry faces the weather, yes. It protects the main door and lets you ventilate without opening up the house.
Swap between glass and screen as the season changes, keep the closer adjusted so it doesn’t slam, and wipe the sweep at the bottom. That is about it.
Most standard entries take one. We measure the opening and check the trim, since the storm door frame fastens to it. Unusual sizes may need a custom unit or some trim work.
Full-view shows off a nice entry door and swaps to a full screen. A partial or retractable screen is simpler day to day. We’ll show you both on site.
A solid frame and a good lock add another layer at the front door, though the main door and its deadbolt still do the real work.
Before You Commit to Storm Doors
- Full-view or ventilating. A full glass panel shows off the entry door; a ventilating model with a screen lets the breeze through. Interchangeable panels let you switch with the season.
- Mind the heat on a sunny entry. Full sun on glass in front of a dark entry door can trap a lot of heat between the two, so on a south- or west-facing entry check the door maker’s guidance first.
- Get the closer right. A good closer and a wind chain stop a gust from throwing the door back on its hinges, which is the most common way storm doors get damaged.
How does a storm door project run?
- 1
A free measure and estimate
We measure the opening, check the frame and threshold for rot or movement, and price the door, hardware and trim as one job.
- 2
Ordered to the opening
The door is built to the measurements, so the fit is square and the weatherstrip actually seals rather than being forced to close.
- 3
Framing done properly
Where the frame or sill needs repair, it is repaired before the door goes in. A good door on a bad frame is a callback waiting to happen.
- 4
Walkthrough and warranty
We check the swing, latch and lock with you, adjust anything that needs it, and leave the manufacturer and installation warranties.
