What comes with our Hardie Siding

Premium

From the street it is the siding people most often take for wood. The boards have real depth, crisp shadow lines and a grain you can see up close, and because the board is cement-based, sun and rot are far less of a worry than with wood.

Compared with the other two options we install, James Hardie fiber cement is the premium, heaviest choice. Insulated vinyl adds a foam backing for comfort. Standard vinyl is the lowest-cost new exterior. Hardie is for homeowners who want the look of painted wood, a substantial, solid wall, and cladding that won’t burn or rot.

  • Fiber cement stands up to impact, heat and moisture
  • Convincing wood-grain texture and crisp shadow lines
  • Holds factory color well in Texas sun

Installing and caring for Hardie Siding

Fiber cement is also the one to choose if you want the option of repainting a new color later.

A James Hardie job has the same stages as vinyl (strip, inspect, repair, wrap, flash, hang, trim), but fiber cement is heavier and has to be cut and fastened to James Hardie’s installation instructions. That means dust control when cutting, specific fastener placement, and caulked or flashed joints. What we find behind the old siding is often the story of the house, and we show you before anything gets covered back up.

DFW siding takes summer sun on the west and south walls, spring hail and the occasional hard freeze. Fiber cement stands up well to hail impact and doesn’t soften in heat. Cost is driven by wall area, trim detail, the amount of repair behind the old siding, and whether you choose a factory finish or paint on site.

Hardie Siding: common questions

Hardie fiber cement is the premium, most durable option and the one to pick for a painted wood look. Insulated vinyl is the comfort and energy pick, and standard vinyl is the lowest cost route to a new exterior. We’ll show you samples against your brick on site.

Modern vinyl and fiber cement siding is designed to hold its color and shape for decades in Texas sun, hail and heat. We’ve repaired siding we installed more than twenty years ago that was still in good shape.

Usually. We’ve tracked down matches even after a manufacturer changed lines.

Factory-finished boards hold their color for a long time. Over the years you may want to repaint, which fiber cement accepts well. Keep caulked joints in good shape and keep sprinklers off the walls.

Before You Commit to Hardie Siding

  • Decide on the finish. Fiber cement comes factory-finished or primed to paint on site. The choice affects color range, schedule and when the house next needs paint.
  • Allow for a heavier job. The boards are heavier than vinyl and are cut with dust control, so installation takes longer. Worth knowing when you plan around the crew.
  • Give the trim equal attention. Crisp shadow lines show every joint, so corner boards, window trim and how the siding meets the brick are part of the design.

How does a Hardie siding project run?

  1. 1

    A free inspection and estimate

We look at what is behind the current siding as far as we can, measure the elevations and give you a firm written estimate with the material you choose.

  2. 2

    Tear-off and inspection

The old siding comes off so the sheathing and any damage can be seen and dealt with before the new wall goes on. That is where most surprises live.

  3. 3

    Flashing, wrap and install

House wrap and flashing go on properly at every opening and penetration; on a North Texas wall that detail decides how long it stays dry.

  4. 4

    Walkthrough and warranty

We walk the whole exterior with you, clear the site of debris and nails, and leave the manufacturer and installation warranties together.
