Radiant Barrier / Liquid Foil in Dallas–Fort Worth
A reflective layer applied to the underside of the roof deck. It pushes radiant heat back out before it ever loads into the attic. That matters a lot in a North Texas summer.

What comes with our Radiant Barrier / Liquid Foil
Texas Specific
On a DFW summer afternoon the shingles bake for hours, and the roof deck passes that heat down onto the insulation, the ducts and anything else in the attic. A barrier cuts much of it off at the source.
A radiant barrier and insulation do different jobs. Insulation slows heat moving through it. A radiant barrier reflects radiant heat from the hot roof deck so less of it reaches the attic in the first place. That is why it earns its keep in a North Texas summer, when the roof deck is at its hottest for months on end.
- Reflects radiant heat away from the attic space
- Particularly effective through DFW summers
- Works alongside your existing attic insulation
Installing and caring for Radiant Barrier / Liquid Foil
It works best alongside good attic insulation, not instead of it. If your existing insulation is thin, settled or damaged, we will say so, because topping that up may matter more than the barrier.
What drives cost: the size and layout of the attic, how easy it is to get into, whether the barrier goes on the roof deck or the rafters, and whether insulation work is happening at the same time. Ducts and equipment in the attic also change the job.
The process is simple: inspect the attic, check ventilation and existing insulation, install the barrier, then clean up. It is a good time to look at attic ventilation too, since a barrier works with airflow, not against it.
Radiant Barrier / Liquid Foil: common questions
They do different jobs, and a barrier works best alongside good insulation, not instead of it. If your existing insulation is thin, settled or damaged, topping that up may matter more, and we’ll tell you so.
On the underside of the roof deck or across the rafters, depending on the attic’s layout and access. We decide after we’ve been up there and checked the ventilation and existing insulation.
Attic work happens above you. It takes a day or less for most homes, with minimal disruption inside.
Its main job here is summer heat. Winter comfort depends more on your insulation and air sealing, which is why we look at the whole attic, not just the barrier.
A perforated barrier installed correctly lets moisture pass. The bigger risk is poor attic ventilation, so we check that during the inspection.
If upstairs rooms stay hot into the evening, the AC runs hard all afternoon, or the attic feels like an oven when you open the hatch, it is worth a look. We will check the insulation and ventilation at the same time and tell you which fix comes first.
Before You Commit to Radiant Barrier / Liquid Foil
- Know what it does and does not do. A radiant barrier cuts the heat coming off the roof deck. It does not replace insulation on the attic floor or fix air leaks, so both are worth checking.
- Keep the attic ventilated. It works best with air moving through the attic, from soffit vents in to ridge or roof vents out.
- Think about the ductwork. When the ducts and air handler live in the attic, a cooler attic means cooler air arriving at the vents in July.
How does a radiant barrier project run?
- 1
A free attic assessment
We get into the attic, check the rafters, ventilation and existing insulation, and price the job.
- 2
Prep and access
Walkways and lighting go in where needed, and anything that would block the rafters is cleared first.
- 3
Barrier on the rafters
The reflective barrier is fastened to the underside of the rafters with the gaps and edges the manufacturer calls for, so the attic can still breathe.
