What comes with our Spray Foam Insulation

Highest Performance

Many attic comfort problems start with air, not a lack of insulation: gaps at the top plates, open chases, recessed lights and the attic hatch. Batts and loose fill slow heat but let that air through. Foam closes those gaps as it goes on.

Spray foam versus blow-in is mostly about air leaks. Spray foam fills and seals gaps in one step, which is why it is the stronger option for leaky attics, rooflines and awkward spaces. Blow-in is the more economical way to add depth over an attic floor that is already reasonably sealed.

  • Seals air leaks and insulates in a single application
  • Reaches awkward gaps, joints and penetrations
  • Helps keep ductwork in the attic closer to room temperature

Installing and caring for Spray Foam Insulation

Some homes get foam on the underside of the roof deck, which brings the attic, and the ducts in it, inside the conditioned space. Others get foam only where the leaks are. We look at your attic and HVAC layout before recommending either.

In a DFW summer the attic is the hottest room in the house, and in many homes the ducts and air handler sit up there. Foam on the underside of the roof deck keeps that space much closer to indoor conditions, so the ducts stop losing cool air into a hot attic. In a freeze it keeps the attic from getting as cold, which helps protect pipes up there.

Cost is driven by the area covered, the type of foam, how much old insulation has to be removed first, and access. Because foam changes how an attic breathes, we also look at your ventilation and HVAC before recommending it.

Spray Foam Insulation: common questions

Spray foam seals air leaks as it insulates, so it’s best when the attic is leaky. Blow-in is the practical way to top up an under-insulated attic. We’ll tell you which one pays back faster for your house.

Most DFW attics are under-insulated for the climate. Bringing them up to standard usually shows up on the very next summer bill, and the house holds temperature more evenly.

Attic work happens above you. It takes a day or less for most homes, with minimal disruption inside.

Plan to be out while the foam is applied and while it cures. We’ll tell you the timing for your job before we start.

We go up and look for where air is getting through: gaps around top plates, open chases, recessed lights, the hatch, and daylight at the eaves. We also note where the ducts and air handler sit and how the attic is vented, because foam on the roof deck changes how the attic works. We’ll show you photos of what we found.

When foam goes on the underside of the roof deck, the attic is usually treated as a sealed space rather than a vented one, so the vents are closed off as part of the job. That is a change to how the house works, which is why we look at the HVAC and roof before recommending it.

Before You Commit to Spray Foam Insulation

  • Decide where the seal goes. Foam can go on the attic floor or against the underside of the roof deck. The deck option brings the attic inside the conditioned space, which changes how ventilation and the HVAC are set up.
  • Fix the roof first. Foam against the deck makes a slow leak harder to spot, so a roof with problems is repaired before it is covered.
  • Ask about re-entry time. Spray foam needs time to cure, and the installer will tell you how long to keep the house clear. Plan the day around it.

How does a spray foam project run?

  1. 1

    A free attic assessment

We get into the attic, check the roof deck, ventilation, ductwork and any existing insulation, and price the job.

  2. 2

    Prep and protection

The attic is cleared and protected, and anything that must stay accessible is marked before any foam goes on.

  3. 3

    Foam on the roof deck

Foam is sprayed in even passes to the underside of the roof deck and gables, sealing the attic from the heat outside.

  4. 4

    Walkthrough and warranty

We show you the finished coverage, leave a note of what was installed where, and back the work.
