What comes with our Insulated Patio Covers
Cooler Underneath
It goes up like any attached patio cover, with posts, beams and a roof tied into the house, but the roof itself does more of the work. On a west-facing patio late in the afternoon, that is the difference between a space you use and one you walk past.
The choice is usually between a standard solid cover and an insulated panel roof. Both keep off sun and rain. The insulated panel has foam between two skins, so less of the sun’s heat comes through to the patio below and heavy rain sounds like rain, not a drum. If the patio faces west, or you plan to add screens or glass later, the insulated roof is the one we usually steer people toward.
- Insulated panels cut radiant heat underneath
- Much quieter in heavy rain than a bare metal roof
- Clean finished ceiling with no exposed structure
Installing and caring for Insulated Patio Covers
The panels also give you a clean finished ceiling with no exposed rafters, and we can run fan and light wiring through the structure so nothing hangs loose.
What drives cost: the size and span, panel thickness and finish, how it ties into your roofline, the electrical you want, and whether the slab and footings are ready. On Blackland clay, we size the footings for movement so the posts stay put through wet springs and dry summers.
It is an attached structure, so plan on a permit. Our permit guide covers the usual steps. The work runs through design, engineering and permit, footings, posts and beams, panels and flashing, then trim, electrical and final inspection.
Insulated Patio Covers: common questions
Almost always for anything attached to the house. We file it and handle the inspection so it doesn’t stall your schedule.
Both keep off sun and rain. If the patio faces west, or you plan to add screens or glass later, the insulated roof is the one we usually steer people toward.
Depending on size, complexity and weather, most patio projects are completed within 3 to 4 weeks of the start date. We work with your city on the building permit.
Better than a bare metal roof, because the foam core backs up the top skin, but a big enough stone can still dent anything. After a hailstorm, look at the panels and gutters from the ground and send us photos if something looks off. Dents are often cosmetic, and we will tell you if they are not.
Very little. Keep the gutters clear, rinse the panels now and then, and check the flashing at the house after storms. There is no wood to stain up top.
Before You Commit to Insulated Patio Covers
- Feel the difference before you decide. An insulated panel roof runs noticeably cooler underneath in August than a bare one, and it quiets heavy rain.
- Check the span. Insulated panels carry further between posts, which can mean a clearer view out and fewer columns in the middle of the patio.
- Plan the lighting in the panel. Fixtures and fans are set into the panel, so their positions are decided with the drawing rather than after the roof is up.
How does an insulated patio cover project run?
- 1
A free estimate visit
A specialist measures the patio, walks the access a crew would use, and talks through what you want the space to do. You get a firm written estimate, not a range.
- 2
Drawings, permit and HOA
We draw the job, file the permit with your city and follow it through review. Where an HOA needs a submittal, we prepare the drawings it asks for.
- 3
One crew, one schedule
The same team builds the whole thing in the right order, so the structure, the electrical and the finish work are not three companies blaming each other.
- 4
Walkthrough and warranty
We walk the finished job with you, settle the punch list, and leave you with one warranty covering the work rather than a folder of separate ones.
