What comes with our Blow-In Attic Insulation
Best Coverage
Many DFW attics were built with less insulation than the climate calls for, and what is there has often settled over the years or been pushed around by anyone working up there. Blow-in fills the thin spots and brings the whole floor back to one depth without tearing anything out.
Blow-in versus spray foam comes down to what your attic’s real problem is. Blow-in adds depth over the attic floor and is the quickest, most economical way to fix an attic that is simply short on insulation. Spray foam seals air leaks as well as insulating, and costs more. Many DFW attics just need topping up, and that is where blow-in fits.
- Fills evenly around existing framing
- Straightforward way to top up existing insulation
- Fast to install with minimal disruption inside
Installing and caring for Blow-In Attic Insulation
Before we blow, we look for the leaks that should be sealed first, around top plates, light fixtures and the attic hatch, and we keep insulation clear of soffit vents so the attic still breathes.
In a DFW summer the attic is the hottest room in the house, and in many homes the ductwork and air handler sit up there. Blow-in on the attic floor slows the heat coming down into the rooms below, and in a winter freeze it holds heat in. It doesn’t change the temperature around ducts in the attic, which is where spray foam differs.
Cost depends on attic size, the depth you want to reach, how much existing insulation is there, and whether air sealing or baffle work is needed first. The job itself is usually a day or less.
Blow-In Attic Insulation: common questions
Spray foam seals air leaks as it insulates, so it’s best when the attic is leaky. Blow-in is the practical way to top up an under-insulated attic. We’ll tell you which one pays back faster for your house.
Most DFW attics are under-insulated for the climate. Bringing them up to standard usually shows up on the very next summer bill, and the house holds temperature more evenly.
Attic work happens above you. It takes a day or less for most homes, with minimal disruption inside.
Usually, yes, if the old material is dry and clean. If it is wet, moldy or damaged by pests, it comes out first.
We go up into the attic and look at what is there now, how deep it is, whether it is wet or damaged, where the ducts and air handler sit, how the attic is vented, and where daylight or air comes through from outside. That visit is what decides blow-in, spray foam or a mix of both, and we’ll show you photos of what we found.
Insulation works best alongside sealed ductwork, good attic ventilation, and shade on the west side of the house. We’ll point out anything we see in the attic that is worth fixing along with the insulation.
Before You Commit to Blow-In Attic Insulation
- Clear the attic floor first. Boxes and loose boards decide how evenly the material can go down, so we plan around anything that has to stay up there.
- Keep the eaves breathing. Baffles at the soffit vents stop loose fill from blocking the airflow the roof relies on.
- Top up or start again. Where the old insulation is damp, damaged or full of debris, removing it can be better than burying it under new material.
How does a blown-in insulation project run?
- 1
A free attic assessment
We get into the attic, look at what is up there, check the depth and coverage, and price the work to reach the level you want.
- 2
Prep and protection
Baffles, air sealing and protection for the run of the house go in first, so the insulation performs and the rest of the house stays clean.
- 3
Installed to depth
Material goes in to an even, measured depth across the whole attic floor or roof deck, not just where it is easy to reach.
- 4
Walkthrough and warranty
We show you the finished depth and coverage, leave a note of what was installed where, and back the work.
