Replacement Siding That Handles Texas Weather

Replacement siding (insulated vinyl, standard vinyl and Hardie fiber cement) installed on homes across Dallas–Fort Worth. For houses where hail, sun and hundred-degree summers have worn the exterior, it holds its color, seals the envelope and changes how the house reads from the street.

What does new siding actually do for a house?

Siding is the outer skin of the wall. It sheds rain, takes the sun and hail, and sets how the house looks from the street. New siding is worth it when the old material is cracked, soft, loose or letting water behind it, and it can be a poor buy when the real trouble is flashing or a gutter that only needs fixing.

The main choice is between James Hardie fiber cement and vinyl, with or without insulation behind the panel. Fiber cement is heavier and holds paint. Vinyl is lighter and needs less upkeep, and insulated vinyl adds a continuous layer across the wall, which helps in a long North Texas summer. Before anyone orders material, the wall underneath should be checked for water damage, since new panels over a wet wall only hide the problem.

What Are the Three Siding Options?

Three main directions, depending on how much insulation value you want and the look you’re after. We’ll show you samples on site against your existing brick and trim.

Insulated siding on a home exterior

Insulated Siding

Best Efficiency

Siding with a rigid insulation backing bonded to the panel. It adds R-value to the walls, evens out temperature swings between rooms and takes the edge off outside noise.

  • Adds insulation value to exterior walls
  • Helps with both summer heat and winter cold snaps
  • Rigid backing resists dents and keeps lines straight

Non-Insulated Siding

Best Value

Classic vinyl siding without the insulated backing. The most cost-effective way to replace a tired exterior, and still effectively maintenance-free once it’s up.

  • Lowest cost route to a completely new exterior
  • No painting, scraping or sealing to keep up with
  • Wide range of colors and profiles

Hardie Siding

Premium

Fiber cement board. It’s heavier, more substantial, and it carries a painted wood look convincingly. A strong choice if you want the texture of real wood siding without the upkeep.

  • Fiber cement stands up to impact, heat and moisture
  • Convincing wood-grain texture and crisp shadow lines
  • Holds factory color well in Texas sun

How do the siding options compare?

The Insulated vinyl (vinyl panel with rigid foam bonded behind it) is a fit for evening out temperature swings and stiffening the panel so it looks flatter on the wall. The Vinyl (classic vinyl panel) is a fit for the most cost-effective way to replace a tired exterior. The James Hardie (fiber cement board) is a fit for a convincing painted-wood look and the most substantial feel. The table has the detail.

Before You Commit to New Siding

  • Pick for the wall, not the brochure. Insulated vinyl adds R-value, standard vinyl is the most cost-effective, and Hardie fiber cement carries a painted wood look without the upkeep.
  • Ask what goes on behind it. Wrap and flashing behind the panels are what keep the wall dry through hail, heat and a hard freeze, and they are invisible once the job is done.
  • Look at the whole elevation. Trim, soffit and fascia are part of how the house reads from the street; replacing panels alone can leave the rest looking tired.

How a Siding Project Runs

  1. 1

    A free inspection and estimate

We look at what is behind the current siding as far as we can, measure the elevations and give you a firm written estimate with the material you choose.

  2. 2

    Tear-off and inspection

The old siding comes off so the sheathing and any damage can be seen and dealt with before the new wall goes on. That is where most surprises live.

  3. 3

    Flashing, wrap and install

House wrap and flashing go on properly at every opening and penetration; on a North Texas wall that detail decides how long it stays dry.

  4. 4

    Walkthrough and warranty

We walk the whole exterior with you, clear the site of debris and nails, and leave the manufacturer and installation warranties together.

Siding: common questions

If your priority is comfort and energy performance, insulated. If it’s the lowest cost route to a new exterior, non-insulated vinyl. Hardie fiber cement is the premium, most durable option. We’ll show you samples against your brick on site.

Modern vinyl and fiber cement siding is designed to hold its color and shape for decades in Texas sun, hail and heat. We’ve repaired siding we installed more than twenty years ago that was still in good shape.

Usually. We’ve tracked down matches even after a manufacturer changed lines.

It adds a continuous layer outside the studs, so it covers the framing that wall cavity insulation can’t. Whether it pays back depends on the house. We’ll give you both prices so you can compare.

The foam backing supports the panel, which helps it resist dents better than unbacked vinyl. Large hail can still damage any siding, and we’ll help with repairs and matching after a storm.

A soft brush and a garden hose with mild soap handle most of it. Avoid a pressure washer at close range, since it can drive water behind the panels. Keep grills and anything hot away from the walls.

What drives the cost of new siding?

Siding is priced by the wall, and what is on and under that wall changes the number.

  • The material. James Hardie fiber cement, insulated vinyl and non-insulated vinyl all cost differently to buy and to install.
  • How much wall, and how high. A second story takes more setup and more care than a single-story wall.
  • Removing the old siding. What is up there now, and how it comes off, affects the labor.
  • What is underneath. Wet sheathing or failed flashing has to be fixed before new panels go on.
  • Corners, gables and trim. A simple box has far less cutting than a house with many corners.

We do not publish a price list, because these change the number more than the product does. The free in-home estimate puts your numbers in writing.
